Steam Updates Content Guidelines for Uncensored 18+ Visual Novels & RPGs

Steam remains a common store for adult visual novels and RPGs, which means Valve’s documentation still decides what a public page can show. An earlier version of this URL claimed a streamlined 5-business-day audit window for uncensored 18+ titles. We do not have a primary source for that SLA, so we do not use it. This page is a method for reading the current Steamworks adult-content rules, store tags and regional hiding before you buy or before you ship.
Open the developer rules, then the store page
Valve publishes adult-content guidance for developers in Steamworks documentation, and it publishes what a customer sees on a store page: content warnings, age gates, and sometimes a hidden listing in a country. Those are different documents. A change in the developer FAQ does not instantly rewrite every store card. Date both when you check them. If a social post says “Steam now allows X,” look for the Steamworks paragraph, not the post.
Uncensored builds are often a second depot, a later patch, or a different SKU. Read the store edition name. Read the developer’s own FAQ for how the adult file arrives. A “complete” tag on a trailer is not a depot list. If you need the uncensored edition, confirm it is the one in your cart, in your region, on the account you will use.
Tags, gates and refunds
Content tags are how many adult titles stay findable. They are also how they get filtered. If you cannot see a page, it may be a regional hide rather than a takedown. Use a second source — the developer’s site — to confirm the product still exists. Do not assume a friend in another country has the same store view.
Refunds follow Steam’s public refund rules, not a studio Discord. Cancel of a related subscription (for a browser sister title, for example) is a different control on a different operator. Keep those wallets separate. This desk does not invent USD prices. If a page mentions tokens or credits, that is usually a third-party launcher, not Steam wallet language; copy the words from the live screen.
Who should skip a Steam uncensored buy
Skip it if your region’s store page is hidden and you were about to follow an unofficial extra file. Skip it if the adult content is only promised in a future patch. Skip it if you need a store that will show the page at work; this is 18+ material. Correction status

Sister browser titles still need their own cancel path. A Steam refund does not cancel a web subscription, and a web cancel does not remove a Steam license. Keep the two receipts.
